Right On, Target

I know I'm not alone in the fact that I've had a long-standing love affair with Target.  From the clothes, to the accessories, to the home décor, I love their style.

Here are a few things I spotted at Target recently that were just too great not to share...

Even their food has chic packaging.  Anyone else want to buy this soup just so it will look cute in the pantry?

And as part of The Shops at Target, The Curiosity Shoppe has some really cute stuff.  As soon as I saw these placemats, I was thinking they'd make a great throw pillow.

And the plates?  Adorable.  Love the color choices.

This cutting board is totally great as well.  Kinda reminds me of my son's USA chalkboard.  You could make a chalkboard out of this, too, with a little chalkboard spray.

And these paper straws had to come home with me.  Perfect for Fall!

This doggy lamp would be an adorable statement piece.

Equestrian style is huge right now, and I'm ga-ga over these ceramic trophies.  And I noticed when I was in the store this week that these are on sale!

And with football season upon us, these vintage sports kitchen towels are right on.  My good friends who are Michigan fans would love those blue and gold ones.

Just a little Target love in case you haven't had your Target fix recently.  This is not a sponsored post, just sharin' the love!

My Favorite Pumpkin Muffins

'Tis definitely the season for a good pumpkin muffin and, trust me, I've tried many different recipes through the years.

But, {little confession here} my favorite recipe of
all comes in this little box and if you have a hard time finding it at your local store like I do, order online here for a great deal and free shipping!

Add a little milk, a little oil, and a couple of eggs, and you've got just the right combination of pumpkin and spice in a pumpkin muffin.  They're great as a pumpkin bread, and great as a muffin.

And for a little extra wow, melt some butter and mix up some cinnamon sugar (I use about 1/3 cup sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon), then dip the tops of the muffins in the butter, then the cinnamon sugar.

I also make the mini version sometimes, add a little dollop of cream cheese frosting, and top them with a chocolate leaf.  Click here for the chocolate leaf how-to.

These are so super-easy, and one of my favorite flavors of Fall.  Pillsbury did not pay me to say this, although I wish they would so I could stock up on some more boxes of this mix.  Buy it while you can--it's only sold in select stores during the Fall season.  Yum!

Decorating for Fall With a Pastel Palette

I love traditional Autumn hues as much as the next gal this time of year.  Everybody needs a little red, brown, and orange somewhere in the house when Fall rolls around.  But not every room can handle those deep hues.

If your decorating style lends itself to a softer look, don't can still get the feel of Autumn without cramping your style.

In my house, the kitchen can handle pretty much all the bright orange I want to throw at it, so that's what I usually do.  (See my Fall kitchen décor here and here.)

But, my dining room and formal living room are softer, lighter tones, so I've tried to usher Fall into these rooms accordingly.

In my usual style, I searched and gathered things from all around the house to style the mantel for Fall in the Piano Room.

The book page wreath and garland are from my Seasonal Shelves from last year.  (You can see more on that here.)  I borrowed the lantern from the family room, and chose a few good colors of books from my stash in the French Cabinet.  There's just something about Fall that begs for books.  And don't forget--when it comes to décor, it's totally fine to judge a book by its cover.

A tiny stick with some punched leaves makes a great little Fall tree.  I made this one like my Fall tree from last year, which you can see here.

A few wheat and feathers in an urn adds some height and balance, and the pale orange pumpkin is just the right hue for the room.

These pale gray pillows from Ross were a cheap and easy substitute for my usual pink ones, which weren't quite right for Fall.

In the dining room, a couple of blue pumpkins add just the right amount of Autumn without being disruptive.  (These gorgeous things were at my local Walmart for only $.48/ pound, but if you can't find this variety where you are, paint the orange ones whatever color you want.)

With color like this, Fall won't wear out its welcome in these rooms 'til Christmas time.  For more mellow styling for Fall, see my Seasonal Shelves in the breakfast room.

So, how does your house handle the colors of Fall?

My $2 Fall Kitchen Decor {I Told You I Was Thrifty}

So I really went all out on styling my kitchen for Fall this year.  I spent a whopping $2 on a little plastic pumpkin from Walmart.  Everything else you've seen before in some place or another in my house.  I just changed it up a little.

That burlap vase with the leaves is the one from this post, I just turned it around so the bee motif is in the back, then I added a couple of pine cones tied on with jute.  The chalkboard was the one I made for my parents' anniversary party, and the black and white pitcher is the one I got from my BFF for my birthday.  And there's the big-budget pumpkin right there beside it.

The chalkboard art is a product of inspiration I've gathered from my Chalkboard Art board on Pinterest.

Remember this burlap in a gold frame?  I used it for my spoon art in the Spring, but I re-made it into this leaf specimen art for Fall by cutting leaf silhouettes from scrapbook paper I already had.  Just tape on the leaves and labels and you're done!

Nothing too fancy, just fun for Fall.  Remember, you don't need to spend big money on your Fall decor.  Use what you have and dress it up for the season.  Save your money and buy a fabulous Fall handbag instead.  Now that's money well spent!

Stay tuned for my no-budget Fall mantel coming soon.  I'm on a roll.

Fall Seasonal Shelves 2012

This post brought to you by Glade Fall Collection. All opinions are 100% mine.

Every time a new season comes around, I start looking for inspiration for my seasonal decor.  Sometimes I go with classic, sometimes it's whimsical, but it's almost always eclectic (meaning, I search my house and pull things together from all over the place).  And for my Fall shelves in the breakfast room this year, I took my inspiration from a little candle.  Glade® sent me their new, Limited Edition Autumn Harvest candle from the Glade Fall Collection.  It's described as smokey, woodsy, and mellow.  So I went with that theme, and came up with this look...

I borrowed the iron gate from my gallery wall in the library, and that gave me a good start down a "woodsy" path.  Then, I added my painted owl from last year and put some pumpkins on the same urns I had up there from Spring and Summer.

Another pumpkin on some moss in a lantern balances out the other end...

And (big surprise) I had to have a chalkboard in there somewhere, even if it is just a small one.

A small thrift store patterned plate layered on my large blue plattter adds the "mellow" feel up there beside my large mercury glass apothecary jar.

And for the perfect cozy touch, the Autumn Harvest candle adds a little warmth and a great smoky scent, perfect for a chilly Fall day.  This is a totally unique fragrance that will get you in the mood for that crisp Fall weather.  And this isn't the only way to bring the fragrance of Fall to your house.  There's also Maple Pumpkin, Blackberry Jam, and Apple Cinnamon available in the Glade® Fall Collection.  Can't wait to try those as well!

And here's a little bonus:  click here to get a coupon for $1.50 off two Glade Fall Collection products at Walmart!

I hope this gives you a little inspiration for your own Fall decor.  I'm working in the kitchen next.  Stay tuned to see how that turns out!

Kmart's Big Layaway Giveaway

This post brought to you by Kmart. All opinions are 100% mine.

It wasn't long ago that some friends and I were remembering that, years ago, stores offered layaway and people were able to buy things they wanted as the money came in, rather than going into debt or going back to the store later to find that the item was sold out.  I remember the days of standing at the layaway counter at Kmart with my mom while she made her payments. And the excitement of the day we got to pay off our items and bring them home.

It's pretty much the concept we try to teach our kids:  You can't buy something unless you have the money to pay for it.

Well, here's some great news:  in plenty of time for the Christmas season, Kmart is offering free layaway!  And it's a great opportunity to get a head start on buying those holiday gifts
Other big-name retailers offer limited types of layaway plans, but at Kmart, you're not limited to certain kinds of merchandise or minimum transaction amounts.  You can even make your payments online and pick up in the store!

And what's even more exciting, to show you how easy their layaway plan is, Kmart is offering a Big Layaway Giveaway from now through November 17.  Every week, in every store, one lucky winner will have their layaway balance paid off!  Visit Kmart's Big Layaway Giveaway to find out more!

I stopped by my local Kmart recently and noticed several things that would be perfect for putting in layaway until Christmas.  I'm hoping to win big during the Big Layaway Giveaway!
Don't tell my husband, but they have a great deal on foosball tables, which is what he's been wanting.

They also had a large selection of grills and TV's.

This beautiful new table and chair set by Sandra Lee is a great deal as well...

And if you're looking for toys for the kids, they've got everything from Power Wheels to play kitchens.  And one more good thing about layaway is that you won't have to try to find space in the house to hide the gifts!

Stop by your local Kmart or shop to see what you want to put in layaway! You may end up winning it!
